Playing the piano can be one of the most enjoyable, rewarding, and fulfilling habits a person can form. The discipline that is involved in creating that habit is often demanding but the results are fantastic. It takes many tedious hours of practice to be able to play a piano well, but more times than not, the time spent in practice is well worth it.

I know a few people who can play the piano and when they set down at the keyboard and start playing a tune, I am impressed. The reason is simple…the melody that comes from the piano at the hands of that person is incredibly soothing and I discover that all I want to do is listen. And it really doesn’t matter what genre of music is being played, the piano has a sound not common to any other instrument except maybe the electronic keyboard.

If you learn to play by ear, it will also become apparent that you’re missing certain techniques, that if learned properly, would give you more capabilities, depth, and an incredible desire to play as often as you can…maybe even in public.

Learning to play the piano by using a form of instruction is by far, better than trying to learn it on your own. A piano tutor or teacher can help accelerate your learning time and also help you develop a sense of confidence that you might not have if you were trying to do it yourself.

An instructor can show you the “finer” points of creating the balance of harmony found in a certain tune or type of music. You can learn how to show emotions, or learn how to display within the “sound” a personality that many may not be able to produce.

Many talented people are thankful for their time in front of a piano learning with the capable advice and experience of an instructor. So as you might have concluded, taking piano lessons is by far a better way to learn how to play because there is so much more to playing a piano than just pushing the keys on a keyboard.

Now there is software available where you can learn how to take piano lessons online. This method gives you all the qualities of a human instructor but with more freedom to practice when you want too, even if it’s in the middle of the day or late into the night.
